About Your Coach
Dan Musgrave
Golf teaching professional · European Golf Teachers Federation · York
25+ years in golf
Dan has spent more than 25 years in golf, and now teaches players of all ages and abilities — from complete beginners picking up a club for the first time to experienced golfers chasing lower scores. He's a qualified member of the European Golf Teachers Federation, coaching at a driving range and an indoor simulator in York.
What students mention again and again isn't just the technical knowledge — it's how he teaches. Dan explains everything in plain English, finds a different way in if something doesn't click, and tailors every lesson to the person in front of him. He's never watching the clock, and he sends before-and-after swing videos after lessons so you can actually see your progress.
His philosophy is simple: help golfers improve performance and enjoy the game more. You don't need experience — you just need the right guidance to get started.
Who Dan coaches
There is no typical Golf By Dan student. The common thread is that every lesson is 1-2-1 and built around the person holding the club.
Complete beginners
Never held a club, no kit, no idea where to start. Dan starts from zero and most new golfers are striking the ball properly inside their first hour.
Juniors
Kids and teenagers from a first swing to competitive golf. Patient, fun and structured, with parents welcome to watch.
Club golfers
Handicap stuck for years? Dan finds the one thing costing you shots, on the range or out on the course where the scores are made.
Returning golfers
Coming back after years away. A relaxed reset of the fundamentals so the game feels good again, without rebuilding everything.

The best way to know if a coach is right for you is to watch them coach. Here's Dan doing what he does.
How Dan coaches
Dan's coaching comes down to three habits that students mention again and again in their reviews.
Dan explains what is actually happening in your swing versus what it feels like, in words you understand. If one explanation does not click, he finds another way in.
No swing rebuilds for the sake of it. Dan picks the single change that will make the biggest difference, gets it working, and only then moves on.
Before-and-after swing videos sent to your phone after lessons, so your progress is footage rather than a feeling. He is never watching the clock either.
